Whilst passing through the New Forest recently we came across the Tyrrells Ford Country Inn. It turns out that there is an interesting history to the ford on the Avon involving King William II (Rufus) and WalterTyrrell (Lord of Piox in Ponthieu). Tyrrell had recently arrived from Normandy and after allegedly killing the King with an arrow whilst they were hunting fled back to Normandy via the ford. You can read the full account at:
